http://www.karandikars.com/trek2011.php

Hi all,

We trek to Matheran tomorrow. This is the itinerary:

Assemble at Panvel ST STAND at or BEFORE 7.30 a.m.
Have breakfast at a nearby restaurant.
Take rickshaws to the Dudhani Village - about 45 mins. journey.
Immediately start for Matheran.
Reach Matheran in the afternoon, having our lunch on the way.
Reach the place where we are staying, rest, chai.
Roam the area a bit, go to the lake and a couple of 'points'.
Dinner at Matheran and general time pass. Please be ready with an 'Item number'. You are welcome to show off your talent, sing, recite poetry, dance, whatever.....
Next morning, tea and breakfast.
Leave for the taxi stand, it's a 1 hour walk, sightseeing on the way.
Take taxis to Neral - half an hours journey.
Catch local train, return to Mumbai by afternoon. We have to hurry up in the morning, so we don't get caught in the evening rush while returning home. Remember, for the aam janata (those who are not coming for the trek), its a working day.

This is a beautiful trek and we will be guided by an old friend of mine, Shailendra Patil.

What to carry...

Haversack/backpack
A plate, mug and spoon (plastic or thermocol, don't carry heavy ones)
A change of clothes. (Including socks - and please wear fresh ones when we start! Stinking socks will be thrown out!)
Napkins, towels, tissue papers.
1 torch with new batteries AND a candle (must).
Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc.
Water bottle (1 litre) MUST
Food for lunch.
A pair of slippers
A cap
A wind cheater or an umbrella
Plastic to sit on, plastic bags.
Carry one light chaddar. Bedding is being arranged.
Wear good shoes, floaters will do if they fit well. NO HIGH HEELS, chappals. I WILL SEND YOU BACK FROM PANVEL.
Please carry your personal medication, if any

DONOT wear gold chains, earrings, etc.
Wear something sensible for the trek. We are not going on a picnic or participating in a fashion show.
If you want to bring your camera, you are welcome, but it will be solely on your responsibility.
Pack everything in a large plastic bag before you put it in the sack. PUT ANOTHER PLASTIC BAG ON THE FIRST ONE LIKE A CAP.
Be very very careful while packing. Water can enter even a small hole and wet everything. I have lost a very good camera on the last Naneghat trek.
If you do bring your mobiles, be sure to bring a good plastic cover for it.
